A gilt metal hunting watch case, no.193639, with decoratively engraved covers to both sides and additionally with a blank cartouche to one cover and an engraved stag to the other.

Measurements:
Height: 8 cm Width / Diameter: 6 cm Depth: 1.1/2 cm

Item Date: Circa 1890. Condition vintage no dint or repairs.

I would be fairly confident that this watch case was made in the U.S.A. and is typical in design and proportion to watch cases made by companies such as Elgin in the late 19th century. As mention that the inside of the cover is marked Tornado. I have in the past come across watches by a company called the Tornado Watch Co. who were based in Chicago and so it is possible that this this case was made by them. From the photographs it would appear that the case was originally gilt metal (gold plated) and that the brassy colour now visible is the base metal which is showing through, the gold plating having worn through.

Although a decorative object, as a watch case only
